Please note: This is a newer design oil cooler can be used to replace Cat's older model "Flanged End" Oil Cooler - Part number 7W2164. The newer design features a larger diameter body, which increases the cooling capacity.

An oil cooler's primary function is to cool the engine lubricating oil, which in turn lowers the temperature of critical engine components, primarily the engine bearings.
