Caterpillar 3304, 3306 Engines
These shims are used to correctly adjust the liner height when installing them into the cylinder block. There are five different sized shims available. Machining the cylinder block counter bore may be necessary to properly adjust the sleeve protrusion.
Available thicknesses (Sold separately) are:
.007" - Part number 8S6045 (Black marking)
.008" - Part number 8S6046 (Red marking)
.009" - Part number 8S6047 (Green marking)
.015" - Part Number 8S6048 (Brown marking)
.030" - Part Number 8S6049 (Blue marking)
Supporting Information:
Liner protrusion on the 3304 and 3306 engine should be 0.0013 - 0.0069". There should be no more than 0.002" difference between adjacent liners.
Counterbore depths should be averaged making 4 measurements around the perimeter and those measurements should not vary by more than 0.002".
The maximum permissible difference between average liner protrusion under one cylinder head is:
3304 engines - 0.003"
3306 engines - 0.004"
